Forming passive sentences (1)

Verbs such as give take both a Direct Object (DO*) and an Indirect Object (IO*) in 2 patterns : · V + IO* + DO* · V + DO* + preposition + IO* These verbs have 2 corresponding passives
+ The choice : · It depends on the context. · If we wish to specify an agent by at the end of the clause. · Note that 'to' can be left out ( informal context ), in the second passive pattern.
The verbs : · give, award, hand, lend, send, throw. · tell, ask, read, teach.
Verbs that can't be followed by Indirect Object + Direct Object in the active form V + DO* + preposition + IO* These verbs have 1 corresponding passives
The verbs : · announce, demonstrate, describe, introduce, mention, propose, report, say, suggest.
Verbs followed by Object + Complement in the active have 1 passive form. V + O* + Complement These verbs have 1 corresponding passives
The verbs : · appoint, declare, make, nominate, vote. · call, elect, title.
